the green rooms' fresco
Aster Muro is a British studio that specialises in abstract frescoes for interiors. With the goal of pushing boundaries, their team came up with an innovative way of creating art, by using coloured plaster and spray technology both in small mural commissions and large-scale projects.
Thanks to a collaboration with the Foundation course in Art and Design (Manchester School of Art), me and three others had the opportunity to do a short placement with Aster Muro. Over a period of three days in their Wales studio, we learnt about their practice and had the opportunity to produce our own 2x2m frescoes. During that time, we supported the creationg of a "maquette" (smaller mural) which worked as a practice piece ahead of a much bigger project.
In 2020, we gathered at the Green Rooms in MediaCityUK to support Aster Muro in producing their on-site fresco, culminating our collaboration. The 16x5m piece is the largest contemporary fresco in the UK. It hopes to create an in-between space, where the outside world meets the inside of people's homes.
