brief

Created with my colleague Laufey for the Manchester School of Art’s 2023 / 2024 Degree Show, the project involved creating an identity that could accurately represent the creative journeys of 100+ graduating students from different backgrounds.

We needed a comprehensive and flexible system that could reflect the individuality of each student, whilst working consistently across print, digital, and multiple exhibition spaces. It also had to feel playful without losing professionalism, helping showcase the students and their work to potential employers, and industry professionals.

concept

Students’ work in progress became the focal point of the identity, using what usually stays behind the scenes as a teaser for the final show. This imagery was placed inside fluid, irregular shapes, generated at random to reflect the variety of approaches students take to developing their work.

The shapes could shift, be resized and layered in different ways, creating a flexible system where each touchpoint feels slightly different. Together, these elements reflected the diversity of creative approaches and backgrounds across the student group.

outcome

The final proposal extended the identity across print, digital, and exhibition spaces, including posters, a student booklet, an interactive website, social media content, and wayfinding. The exhibition concept featured vinyl graphics, signage, and interactive elements, creating a consistent experience across the different areas of the show.
