the energy issue

2023

aAh! Magazine, the

energy issue

aAh! Magazine is Manchester School of Art's arts and culture student magazine. It allows student journalists and creatives to have a platform to showcase their talent and ideas.

Published in 2023, the "Energy Issue" explores a lot of pressing issues, including the global energy crisis and how artists are helping respond to it. From looking at people living off-grid to focusing on "positive energy" too, the publication is varied in its approach to the theme, challenging readers to reflect on what "energy" means and how it operates around us.

Art directing this issue involved chairing meetings, designing spreads, and coordinating the efforts of the creative team.

The development and implementation of our social media rollout energized the team to another level, motivating all of us to get involved. Shooting and sharing behind the scenes content in a DIY fashion resonated really well with our audience of fellow students, tutors and alumni. The strategy behind it was to keep the content creative, casual, and witty, ultimately leading to a dramatic increase in engagement within aAh! Magazine's social media channels.
